For the very first time, I felt that my English was skyrocketing. And honestly, I have never actually spent much time learning English. I just happened to learn it from my daily habits. I am a voracious reader and I look upon reading as my hobby. I had a lot of books at home that my dad used to read and fortunately, I got obsessed with books during lockdown 2021. Though I was not consistent, I read. But within few months my obsession towards books faded because those books didn’t excite me anymore. Nevertheless, I started collecting money and bought books that I loved. I still have a lot of books to buy and read them.

I found out that reading can actually be fruitful if you enjoy it. You’ll get to know how various words are used in the sentences, find new words to enrich your vocabulary, make your reading frequency faster and the list goes on. Trust me there are a lot of benefits. Don’t read books that the World wants you to read or to prove yourself cool and smart around people. Read books that you love and you think you should be reading.

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH ENGLISH

For me, this is the best and the easiest way to learn English. All you need to do is surround yourself with English. When I was in 9th, I used to watch Chinese dramas a lot. I have spent hours and hours watching over 4-5 episodes per day. But guess what! In order to understand the dialogues and conversations, I used to turn the subtitles on and that was fun. When I reached in 10th, I started watching web series, movies and listening songs in English. I always searched for lyrical videos and subtitles. I did not watch English movies and listened English songs intentionally to learn English. I was doing it for fun or you can say I was spending time during lockdown by doing so.

Now I have actually surrounded myself with English every way possible. I follow English teaching experts and trainers, pages that posts quotes, and a lot of influential people who use English in instagram, linkedin and tiktok. I use these apps not only for entertainment but for other purposes too. What you can do is follow English experts in your social media, watch English movies, web series, listen English songs and so on. And also, try to text your friends or anyone in English. It really works. Just go for it.

TALK TO YOURSELF

I guess you all have talked to yourself, at least once in your life. Talking to ourselves might feel weird but I bet it’s not. I always imagine that I am on a stage delivering speech on any topic in English. No rules and no second thought, I just speak as if I am one of the most well known influential person or a celebrity. I would recommend this to everyone who really wants to learn English. You can just stand in front of the mirror and adore yourself for whoever who are, motivate yourself, smile and talk about your dreams and all. It may sound stupid but to be honest this is what builds your speaking habits. I often do this. And I am sure that this is why my speakimg skill is being improved.. You don’t need to be perfect. Actually, I believe that perfection doesn’t exist. Be a learner, make mistakes and learn from them. So talk to yourself.

BE A SEEKER, BE CURIOUS

Let me make it clear, be a seeker means to seek for something that you are unknown about. Be curious about whatever you have read somewhere, listened somewhere or heard. Here’s an example: Whenever I listen English songs, I find a lot of words or sentences that I do not know. So in order to know the meaning of the song I become curious and google it. This is how you can find commonly used words, phrases and sentence that will definitely help you to build your vocabulary. When you watch movies, there’s always something that we don’t understand just because our English is not strong enough to understand. So write the word or sentence you don’t understand in a paper and later when you are at leisure you can search them. This tip doesn’t bore me at all because I am always curious to know all the detailed information when it comes to movies or songs.

MY SECRET

I love music. It is what holds my feelings because music and lyrics are something I can always relate to. Well, my secret is that I am a bathroom singer, just like you. Bathroom singers basically don’t feel comfortable singing songs around people but when they are left alone they become the best singers automatically. This is why I call them bathroom singer. The main point is to do lip sync. Yes, you heard me. Or sing out loud with the singer while listening to English songs. This will help your english sound like a native speaker. I consider this as a pro way. My second secret is I keep watching videos of my favourite youtuber who teaches English. That’s it. Just reach out to a channel ‘linguamarina’. She is from Russia but lives in the USA now. I bet you won’t find better teacher than her. My third secret is writing. I had a habit of writing diary since I was 13 years old. I kept writing till today. When I open my diary, I see myself changing, both in personality and my English. Write whatever you know, whatever you have seen or whatever you have experienced daily or anything you want. Just write it down. If not possible, make a habit of writing at least twice a week. This really works.

Last but not the least, I am still a learner. I have a lot to learn which is never ending. So I have written the tips based on my personal experience, not from internet or other sources. However, I have covered the most significant techniques that will help you for sure. Give it a go!
